Why Training is Important

A puppy’s natural instincts will not conform to your domestic requirements until he understands what you want him to do. Like any young animal, he needs to be taught. This training process can begin as soon as you get your puppy home. Further lessons and training classes can be introduced as the dog gets older.

The basic lessons which you need him to learn are: to come when called; to walk with you on and off the lead; to stop and sit on command; and to stay when told to do so until you return.

A puppy also needs to learn how to make his toilet habits acceptable – this is especially true with male dogs. He should not be allowed to leave his scent on every tree and lamppost. Through training you can restrict your dog’s fouling to where it is acceptable.
