Your duty as dog owner

A well trained dog is a much happier pet than an untrained one. If you take a little time and trouble, you will find that the companionship of an obedient dog more than repays your efforts.

Training makes a dog a more enjoyable companion to live with and it does not affect his basic character. Dogs were originally pack animals, every pack having a leader. It is confusing for a dog to be without a leader and through basic training your dog will happily accept you in that role. From this basis, a happy relationship should build up, founded on mutual trust and respect. The dog will be contented and the owner satisfied that the animal is not upsetting other members of the community.

Some people have a very real, if not always justified, fear of dogs and an encounter with a boisterous and uncontrolled pet can be very distressing for them. In addition, an undisciplined dog can cause damage – not least of all to the home in which he lives. So every dog owner has a very clear responsibility to train their dog to behave properly.
